Jonathan Scott : Full CV
Kenyan based Zoologist Jonathan Scott best known to UK audiences for his appearances on ‘Big Cat Diaries’ and ‘Big Cat week’ was born in the UK but has made Africa his home since 1977. In the early years while based at the Mara River Camp just outside the northern boundary of the Masai Mara National Game Reserve Jonathan acted as a guide for visitors to the camp, gradually getting to know the best places to look for wildlife, particularly the big cats that had always fascinated him, refining his skills as a wildlife illustrator and photographer. He and his wife Angie now live some twenty minutes drive outside Nairobi in a rambling old stone house with a borehole and ten acres of land overlooking the beautiful Ngong Hills. Between 1982 and 1984, Jonathan travelled to Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Namibia, this period saw the beginnings of his TV presenting career as a co-presenter for the popular American television series Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. In 1995 Jonathan was a co-presenter of Flamingo Watch, a series of live BBC/Turner broadcasts from Kenya's Rift Valley lakes. In 1996 he presented his own television series for BBC/Discovery called Dawn to Dusk - six African wildlife adventures. In that same year the first series of Big Cat Diary was commissioned by The BBC In 2003 Big Cat Diary moved from BBC2 to a primetime slot on BBC1 as Big Cat Week In 2008 Big Cat went Live for eight consecutive days on BBC1 during prime time viewing, with a dedicated web presence that attracted over 2 million hits. Between 1997 and 1999 Jonathan and his wife, fellow award winning wildlife photographer Angie travelled around the world presenting wildlife stories for the USA series ‘Wild Things’, Paramount Productions, visiting Australia, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Alaska, Uganda and Tanzania, to film salt-water crocodiles, one-horned rhinos, tigers, komodo dragons, orang-utans, costal brown bears and gorillas. This was a unique opportunity for them to hone their photographic skills 'out of Africa'. In 2005 Jonathan co-presented Big Bear Diary, and has also co-presented two series of Elephant Diaries for the BBC/Animal Planet. During 2009 Jonathan was a guest on ‘Wildest Dreams’ the recent initiative between BBC Entertainment and the Natural History Unit (NHU) to create a reality show with the winner earning the chance to become a fledgling wildlife filmmaker and a one year placement at the NHU based in Bristol. UK. A charismatic public speaker Jonathan travels the world to deliver his illustrated presentations. The Scott's also host wildlife photographic safaris around the globe from Africa to Antarctica. Other favourite destinations are India, Botswana and Namibia. The Scott's have dedicated much of their lives to wildlife conservation and are Patrons of a number of wildlife conservation societies.
